KMAcademic Talks: International Law and the War

Kyiv-Mohyla Academy is pleased to announce a series of webinars featuring KMA scholars from across the institution engaging alumni, friends and supporters all around the globe.

We launch the project with a series of presentations by members of the Faculty of Law on the pressing issues of international law amid Russian aggression against Ukraine.

Russia’s war against Ukraine clearly violates international law in myriad ways. But international law as well as other legal issues the war raises can be complex and are evolving. Who can be held accountable for the countless crimes? What is the legal basis? What is the appropriate forum? What tools are available to bring about accountability and deter aggression?

The first webinar is scheduled for April 6 at 8 PM (GMT +2). The webinar will feature our Associate Professor of International and European Law Dmytro Koval. Dr. Koval will present on the environmental dimension of the Russian war crimes focusing on the attack on the Kakhovka Dam.

Our webinars are intended to provide expert knowledge about the legal aspects of the war to a lay audience with various professional backgrounds and diverse experiences in an accessible manner. We aim to empower the voice of Ukraine abroad through making our legal expertise publicly accessible.

Communication support is provided by the Ukrainian World Congress. More information about the project can be found here. Please contact us at lawtalks@ukma.edu.ua to get more details, provide feedback or discuss cooperation in organizing webinars.
