The autumn trimester is officially over!
This semester has been special for us — filled with challenges and inspiration. One of the key highlights was the From Warfare to Lawfare program, which was organized for the first time at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.
The program focused on courses in international humanitarian and criminal law, genocide, and preventing abuses of international law. It brought together Ukrainian and international students, creating a unique space for exchanging experiences and knowledge and exploring answers to complex questions:
“The program allowed us to intertwine the experience of applying international law, developed in Ukraine due to Russia’s aggression, with the perspectives and knowledge of international students from different countries and fields of specialization.” — shared by Dmytro Koval, one of the course instructors.
Kateryna Busol, another course instructor, also added:
“Together, we explored Ukraine’s advancements with prosecutions and reparations for Russia’s atrocities, and what it could learn from South Africa’s truth-seeking or Colombia’s pioneering and integrated redress. We also looked at other armed conflicts and atrocity situations globally, critiquing the politicisation of international law and analysing the potential for survivor- and civil society-led change.”
Students have shared their thoughts:
“I really enjoyed the courses, they are well structured and very informative. The convenors are charismatic and knowledgeable, and the other students engaged; which created captivating and productive conversations. It is admirable to see the resilience of Ukrainians, and how education prevails amidst the war. I am thankful for this course and looking forward to its continuation next semester. ” — Marianna Paspaladelli.
We are deeply grateful to all our students for their active participation, insightful discussions, and commitment to learning. We are proud of our lecturers and the entire Faculty team!
Mark your calendars! Applications for the next academic year open in March 2025. Stay tuned for updates!
