International Legal Sanctions and Responsibility of States
This course addresses issues related to the legal and political nature of sanctions (countermeasures). During the course, students will be introduced to the history of the formation of the concept of sanctions, the modern approaches of states and international organizations to the application of sanctions, the sanctions infrastructure of the USA, the EU and Ukraine, the problems of imposing sanctions, court cases related to the appeal of sanctions, grounds for the responsibility of states, etc. After successful completion of the course, students will acquire theoretical knowledge about the norms governing the responsibility of states, approaches to the implementation of sanctions policy in Ukraine and abroad, and will gain practical skills in developing proposals for the imposition of sanctions.
