Peer-to-Peer Writing Workshop: Kyiv-Mohyla Law Students Partner with U.S. Tutors for the Fifth Time

Building on past success, the Faculty of Law is now holding its innovative English Language Peer-to-Peer Workshop for the fifth time. What started as a pilot program with 15 undergraduate law students and 15 US tutors has now expanded to include – first year master’s degree students and 54 US tutors from various US law schools and from the global law firm of White & Case LLP.
The kick off call for the workshop held on September 22 included over 100 participants with many familiar faces as US tutors and faculty have opted to participate again demonstrating not just the success of the workshop but the commitment on the part of US participants to supporting legal education in Ukraine and strengthening rule of law.
US law schools which have participated in sessions of the workshop include Columbia, Fordham, Chicago, Columbia, Georgetown, Harvard, Illinois in Urbana-Champaign and Loyola Chicago, Illinois at Urbana Champaign and Yale.
The workshop was established under the leadership of Dean Volodymyr Venher. Taisa Markus, Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Illinois – Urbana Champaign and Visiting Professor at KMA, spearheaded efforts with the US law schools and structured the workshop. Natalia Maksymchuk, Director of the English Language Program at the Faculty of Law, serves as Deputy Director. Associate Dean Ivan Yatskevych advises on substantive Ukrainian legal issues and on structuring the curriculum.
The Faculty of Law is proud to offer this resource to its students to hone not just English language skills but to form relationships across borders which will be increasingly important as Ukraine accedes to the EU and foreign investment comes into the country.
