Law and Society (in English)

This course explores the philosophical justifications and related limits on the legitimacy and use of government power from a Western perspective. It will focus on various social, political and ethical issues such as: freedom of religion, discrimination, privacy rights, property rights in the body, sexual ethics, abortion, medical health care, corruption, civil disobedience and emerging bioethical issues. The course should be of interest to students of philosophy, sociology, political science and related fields. Classes are interactive and students are strongly advised to attend both seminars and lectures. Students will be required to do independent reseach on several topics of interest and to make a class presentation.
