Legal regulation of Ukraine – EU association (in English)

This is a one-semester postgraduate course that will focus on the main issues of European Union (EU) external relations legislation and specific EU policies towards third countries and their association relations with the EU. Students are expected to have a basic knowledge of the institutional and constitutional foundations of the EU. Course participants will explore the political and legal rationale behind EU foreign policy. The first part of the course covers the history of EU foreign policy and the relationship between the EU and international public law. The second part of the course focuses on the legal basis of the EU’s external competence (explicit, mixed, and implicit). The third part of the course examines selected EU foreign policies and relevant contractual arrangements with third countries (association, partnership, neighborhood). The fourth part of the course examines relations between the EU and Ukraine and relevant policies (European Neighbourhood Policy, Eastern Partnership, Arctic cooperation, EU-US relations, EU-China relations, and others).
