Faculty of Law Students Meet with Professor Thompson

On 11 November 2025, students of the Faculty of Law held their traditional meeting with Professor Thompson as part of the “Family Law” course.

The expanded scope of the lecture allowed for a discussion of several issues of Canadian family law, including parentage, child protection and relocation, child and spousal support, principles governing the division of matrimonial property, as well as the specifics of marital relationships and relationships between partners living as a family. This format encouraged students to reconsider familiar approaches and broaden their professional toolkit in the field of family law.

Professor D.A. Rollie Thompson, KC — Honorary Professor of Law at the Dalhousie University Schulich School of Law. He has also taught at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law and York University Osgoode Hall Law School. He is the 2024 recipient of the Ontario Bar Association’s James MacLeod Memorial Award for outstanding contributions to family law.

We are grateful to Professor Thompson for the insightful discussion and ongoing collaboration. We look forward to future meetings!
