On November 20, our faculty members took part in the roundtable discussion \u201cResponses to Russian Atrocities in the Ongoing War against Ukraine,\u201d organized by the United States Institute of Peace<\/a> in collaboration with the Kyiv-Mohyla Foundation of America and National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy .<\/p>\n

The discussion featured Associate Professors from the Department of International and European Law \u2014 Myroslava Antonovych<\/a> and Dmytro Koval<\/a>. They joined leading international experts in law and international relations to share insights. Key topics of the roundtable included the challenges of international justice, accountability for war crimes, prospects for establishing a special tribunal, as well as the deportation of Ukrainian children and the moral and legal significance of recognizing these crimes for the victims.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome steps have already been taken \u2014 for the first time, individual accountability mechanisms are being applied during an active conflict, particularly within the framework of international conventions,\u201d noted Myroslava Antonovych, Head of the Center for Genocide and Human Rights Studies.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Dmytro Koval, Co-Executive Director at Truth Hounds<\/a> , emphasized the importance of imposing sanctions for the theft of grain and holding accountable Russian corporations that have facilitated or benefited from the commission of war crimes.<\/p>\n

As noted by Marta Farion, President of the Kyiv-Mohyla Foundation in America, Kyiv-Mohyla Academy has always been at the forefront not only of innovation but also in the fight for democracy and freedom.<\/p>\n

We are grateful to our faculty members for their active stance and their contributions to the development of legal mechanisms aimed at holding Russia accountable for its crimes. We are proud that our faculty is participating in global initiatives that support the pursuit of justice!<\/p>\n
